It's a Wuxia story with a female protagonist. It's overall, a rather short (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. I'd recommend information technology if you're looking for something interesting laissez passer the fourth dimension~
4 stars, since I feel similar it dragged on at the cease. It's a Wuxia story with a female person protagonist. It's overall, a rather short (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something interesting pass the time~
...more thanmy chief problem was the length of this novel - i had to have a break somewhere in the middle because it was really, merely So Much. i definitely feel like it'll be better off half the length just i suppose i do southward three.5 | okay. i enjoyed this novel a lot, honestly. i love the fact that we take all the wuxia elements but also the mixture of modern twenty-four hour period cyberspace slang/culture - zhu yao is honestly such a good character, it'due south so refreshing to read about a strong, smart, and kind female grapheme. yeah just.
my primary trouble was the length of this novel - i had to take a interruption somewhere in the eye because it was really, simply Then Much. i definitely feel similar it'll be better off one-half the length merely i suppose i do run across why information technology's so long (everything had to develop and connect). as well really sad how some characters never reappeared after a reincarnation/motility to another world like. yeah u have yue ying and yu yan but similar????? piffling radish and mushmush???? expert characters i desire more :( (also the romance was kinda wack everyone saw it coming miles abroad but it nonetheless felt weird and kinda too much in my face tbh.) lastly. this may just exist me existence sensitive but like? was there really the need for zhu yao to human activity all shook/scandalized whenever one character looks similar they like another character of the aforementioned gender? and unsure if information technology was written like this or if it was the translator's selection just damn. why did i have to read the discussion homosexual buddy at to the lowest degree 20 times in the terminal arc? it merely feels like the writer/translator is making fun of the lgbtq community and saying that existence gay is their merely defining trait which is. ugly to say the least.
tl;dr: i really hate when hets add lgbtq characters for the sole purpose of a humor break.
...moreUnfortunately the structure makes it feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, every bit every new 'My Disciple Died Yet Again' is a quirky novel in a format that reminds a lot more of a tv set prove of several seasons than a book. On one hand, by the separation of "missions" through the arcs, on the other hand, by a writing style that is rather visual. With its eccentric characters, pop culture references and a heavy reliance on humour over logic, it is a fun and entertaining read. For the about part.
Unfortunately the structure makes it feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, as every new arc comes with a setback in cultivation, new setting, characters etc, at the toll of some more graphic symbol development. Unfortunately, the plot relies heavily on a main character that is goodhearted and lightheartedly trigger-happy (I guess... it'due south for laughs?), but whose primary attribute is the ability to not change... at all. So we accept a main character who is maybe non perfect, but still sold as 'platonic person' in many ways, which leads to the read dragging on weven more than.
Coming back to it feeling like a written television set shows, rather than going towards a goal, the structure of this is more than circular. Whenever one thinks there is some bodily overarching plot, it merely reverts dorsum to another new "mission".
Unfortunately the ending does not fix this issue with a really clever tie up of all the events in the previous Arcs, simply instead relies on a pretty generic: "Information technology's all to make the world a better place through this chosen heroine" logic. The solution relies on a pretty creepy, near authoritarian solution, while about side characters are just dropped.
Leaving aside a lot of pretty offensive terminology in the handling of both obesity and homosexuality, which are constantly playes for jokes (and for homosexuality existence unnatural and a trouble that needs solving.... groovy...), information technology is, if considered as one book, really a slice of light entertainment.
I admit that under the consitions of writing (regular updates, chapter by chapter on a blog) of these chinese novels, information technology is peradventure a flake unfair to rate this equally I would a one volume book, merely after reading the works of MXTX (Mo Dao Zu Shi etc), information technology is clearly possible to still write a plot-heavy, cohesive novel. This is is considerably less professional.
That said it is non horrible, I assume it is really hit or miss. If yous look a novel, even if it'south comedic entertainment, to have a satisfactory build upwards and solution, and so this seems indeed rather sloppy. If yous are merely reading information technology for lark, focusing on humour, pop-culture references and simple characters, I am sure this has a lot of potential. I merely expected a tiny piddling bit more plot and character delelopment in a work of this length. ...more
I enjoyed seeing what kind of new grade she'd render in each time. The bige
To be clear, I didn't finish this whole book. There are 12 arcs / 395 capacity total, and I got through the first vi arcs / 195 chapters. Peradventure I will revisit this again anytime, but the whole cycle of reviving and removing the issues in a new mission kinda got old. To be off-white, we finally constitute out a little bit more at the end of arc 6, and Realmspirit did promise to spill the beans after Zhu Yao's next mission, but who knows.I enjoyed seeing what kind of new class she'd return in each time. The bigender form reminded me a bit of the main character in Ranma 1/2. The dragon was probably my favorite, given how she was able to subdue all demonic beasts with her presence, including the devil-inhabited rabbit god at the cease. The piece of jade stone was the most interesting, since she kept on ending upwardly with owners she didn't care for.
I did get a boot out of the master graphic symbol's internal monologue. She was quite funny and had a very blunt way of putting things. I read on mainly for her and for the romance. Speaking of which, I kept waiting for the romance to get further along, and afterward 195 capacity in, I gave upwardly on Zhu Yao's completely clueless chief, Yu Yan. For example, see the beneath interaction betwixt them right earlier I dropped, where Zhu Yao is trying to have off his clothes and sleep with him:
Yu Yan took the outer garments, turned to look at her unknowingly, and then approached her. His ii easily brushed past the sides of her waist, forming a kabe-don posture. He gradually leaned closer… and closer…
And and then…
He put his outer garment on her.
"If yous wanted this mystic robe, say and so straight."
Crepitation.
Zhu Yao heard the sound of something shattering. That was her dead immature maiden's centre…
She actually was stupid to the bespeak of piercing through the sky, for believing that a sure someone could take been enlightened!
A certain master, all the same, stabbed her with some other knife with a stern look.
"I placed down a special defensive formation on this mystic robe, and regular people aren't able to move information technology."
Puaaah! A steel knife stabbed right into her heart.
"Though, the size might be a little big for you."
Puaaah! She received an additional 1000 damage.
"If y'all sincerely similar it, your master shall aid modify it to your size tomorrow."
Puaaah! Her heart received long-lasting damage.
"I shall make some others for you lot while I'm at it as well. Mn… You seem to take grown a little fatter."
Puaaah! Her HP was emptied!

"My Disciple Died Yet Again" is ane of the few titles that popped upward multiple times when I started looking for recommendations for female-led xianxia novels (I actually liked watching The Untamed, and really liked their female characters, merely mostly came away wanting more of them. Since the novel of that is going to take a while, I thought I'd try a few others.)I feel like I could spend some time well-nigh how absolutely WILD it is, flailing well-nigh in the wildernesses of amateur translations. In that location's SO much weird drama, there'south footnotes that become from passive ambitious (this translator just links to wikipedia, which I recall is hilarious) to like, squeeing translator inserts, or footnotes that just don't exist for some ...more than obscure content... but in that location'southward conspicuously this customs doing a lot of piece of work for free on actually intense schedules, which is just :O. I appreciate their piece of work immensely.
ANYway what I am looking for in these xianxia novels (and finding) feels similar classic pulp - it'south incredibly readable, the activeness moves along, and (perhaps this is unlike) in that location are grapheme relationships yous want to come across develop. In My Disciple Died Yet Again in that location's all those things and as well a lot of humor, only frequently slapstick/cultural misunderstandings sort of thing. The best sense of humor is when it'due south about someone existence incredibly sincere and caring and going over the top. The worst is the characters that are mostly just fat jokes. However, at that place does appear to exist some eye in it, and I capeesh that and as well the competent/attainable translation.
As well this is a series of 12 books, not one, so I'm going to mark information technology equally read/reread for even so many books I actually finish.

Dropped at chapter 144/393. I almost dropped information technology at affiliate 30 at first considering it was so then slow, but and so it picked upwards and was great and I had a bunch of belly agonized laughs. And then it reset and so got boring again and and so picked upwardly a chip, and then it reset. After the fifth (?) reset I'm merely really tired. Similar, just thinking about having to become through this for some other 250 chapters makes me want to lie down in bed for a few days.I quite similar the MC, actually. There's just non much else almost the plots or other characters that actually stands out much for me. I was belongings on for some romance but I realized that it wasn't going to happen any time presently. Many many many other things would get in the fashion and the progress was similar watching a huge plan loading on an old figurer: futile and infuriating. I'll reserve my time for something more than worthwhile.

Now this i is non recommended.Information technology's a corking idea, merely it quickly goes from beingness a parody to being exactly the same sort of story it was making fun of.
